What Is Mehndi Made Of?

Mehndi originates from the leaves of the henna plant, scientifically known as Lawsonia inermis. These leaves are carefully dried and ground into a fine, green powder.

Natural ingredients like water, lemon juice, sugar, and optional essential oils are mixed with the henna powder to create the perfect mehndi paste. This blend forms a smooth, aromatic paste ready for intricate application.

How Is Mehndi Applied?

The mehndi paste is loaded into a cone with a fine tip, allowing artists like me to create delicate, detailed patterns that reflect your unique style and story.

When applied to your skin, the magic begins! The paste releases a molecule called lawsone. These lawsone molecules bond with the keratin in your skin, forming a stunning, temporary stain that deepens over time.

The Science Behind the Stain

The beauty of mehndi doesn’t stop at the application. Proper aftercare is essential to achieve its signature dark reddish-brown colour:

• Leave the paste on your skin for at least 6–8 hours (overnight is best!).

• Avoid water for the first 24 hours after removing the dried paste.

• Keep your skin warm to enhance the stain’s richness.

  
  

The stain matures over 24 to 48 hours, revealing its proper depth and beauty—a moment worth capturing and cherishing forever.
